Whether writing an essay, social media post, or blog article — knowing your word and character count is essential.

Why Word Count Matters

Academic writing: essays often have strict word limits. Staying within 10% of the target is standard.

Social media limits:

  • Twitter / X: 280 characters maximum
  • Instagram caption: 2,200 characters
  • LinkedIn post: 3,000 characters
  • Meta description: 150-160 characters

Professional writing: blog posts are typically 800-2,000 words, news articles 300-600 words, and email newsletters 200-500 words.

Step 2: Paste your text. Copy your content and paste it into the text area — the count updates in real-time.

Step 3: View statistics. See word count, character count, sentence count, reading time, speaking time, and paragraph count.

Step 4: Check platform limits. See instantly if your text fits Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and more.

Understanding the Statistics

  • Reading time: calculated at 200 words per minute, the average adult reading speed.
  • Speaking time: calculated at 130 words per minute, useful for presentations and podcasts.
  • Characters with spaces vs without: some platforms count spaces (Twitter), some do not (Instagram hashtags).

Tips for Hitting Your Target

Too long? Remove adverbs (very, really, quite), combine short sentences, and cut redundant phrases.

Too short? Add examples and case studies, expand on key points, and include relevant statistics.
